| We came separately with different reasons – to prove something to ourselves, to seek brotherhood, to find security (in such a cold place as medicine), or with no reason at all.
And by being initiated, we found out that indeed life can be fast-forwarded for us to learn its lessons in such a short time.
One wonders how much one can learn in a span of two weeks that it makes one believe that it is not how long but how one lives life that counts.
We found out that life indeed is not only a struggle but also a continuing learning experience. One can never learn humility without being humbled, tolerance without being stretched to one’s limit and decisiveness without being challenged. We can only learn to help others by being in need of one and to be trusted by feeling how it is to be failed or let down by others.
And to find brothers by being one to others first.
We found unity when we felt everyone was against us and worked for it when others tried to break it. We found strength in our collective stand. We longed for reason and learned that, in the right time, it can always be found.
We were initiated to life. We learned to live as persons, but most of all, as brothers to others.
We became Gammans.
But one thing is sure. Another lesson to learn is that brotherhood is not just succeeding in getting in, but much more.
That is, brotherhood is lived not just aspired for.
It is a way of life, not just a goal.
And this indeed, is the best lesson we have to learn. |
