“We have been always productive and we will remain so. And we intend to be different and better.” Thus declared Nick Villatuya, Grand Chancellor of the Gamma Beta Epsilon Fraternity of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in a formal gathering to celebrate the official recognition of the fraternity.

The Gamma Beta Epsilon Fraternity was officially recognized and authorized to conduct co-curricular activities by the Office of Student Affairs and Community Services last July 2, 1979, upon the recommendation of Manuel Borja, M.D. and Fr. Gabriel Pastrana, O.P., Dean and Regent of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, respectively.

The fraternity has existed since September 20, 1970, suspended its activities when Martial Law was declared but resumed later to put to use the time, talents and manpower of the members. The fraternity had been active in socio-civic undertakings, particularly during natural calamities, even before its formal recognition.

It has conducted medical missions to remote areas and had actively raised funds for various charities.

“Now that we have the sanction of the administration, we can be more effective and less limited on carrying on our objective”, concludes Alberto de Leon, M.D., adviser of the fraternity.

The officers of the Gamma Beta Epsilon Fraternity for the schoolyear 1979-80 are as follows: Grand Chancellor: Nick Villatuya; Vice Grand Chancellor: Conrad Manalad; Scribe: Noel Yamson; Keeper of the Chest: Ted Panlilio; adviser: Dr. Alberto de Leon.
