SHIFT Happened and with a Bang, too!

by Anton Oliver Montiel Javier

The bass resounded with the cheers of the crowd from end to end in Jupiter Street, Makati as the ultimate car show party, SHIFT, was hosted by the Gamma Beta Epsilon Fraternity in upscale Fiamma last August 20, 2011.
“This is one of the most well–‐attended parties I have ever seen,” remarks incumbent Lord Keeper of the Chest Angelo Miguel Realina as he glances at his watch at around 10:45 PM. “Usually nagpa–‐party ako ng mga 12 eh.” But Fiamma was already near 80 percent capacity by 11 PM and was overflowing with people by 1 AM.

The party was sponsored by Tsikot.com, Siomai House, Myx Mobile Bar, San Miguel Brewery, Inc., Fitness First, STP, Prestone, Autobot, Autogenix, and Malaya Business Insight and was held in partnership with the College of Science Dance Troupe, The Terpsichorean Circle, and the Mu Sigma Epsilon Sorority from UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and the Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity from the UP College of Medicine.

It was eye candy from inside out.

Outside Fiamma was a car show from Tsikoteers where Ivy Divino, from FHM 100 SEXIEST and Chiaki Morita, FHM Online Babe of the Month for August 2011 were posing for everybody’s cameras. The car show drew attention not only from males enamored by the scrumptiously skimpy attires of the FHM Models, but also from the most tasteful of female car aficionados.

“I like the one second to the last one,” remarked Kyla Flores, a third year medical student pertaining to a modded Honda hatchback. “It’s one of the first nice ones to come out.” And an impressive collection it was. Most noteworthy among the cars were a Honda City with the most number of Sesame Street Elmo’s crammed inside a single vehicle, a BMW M3 with beautiful paintwork and stunningly colorful rims, and a Honda Civic so extensively modified it looked like a car built inside a stereo. There was also a Scion Xb and a rather vintage Miata, the latter being currently priced at PhP 2.4 million.

The inside of Fiamma was juiced up with the addition of two free–‐flowing minibars besides those of Fiamma that gave free flavored and light beers from San Miguel. There were also games by Myx Mobile Bar where contestants won free memberships to Fitness First inclusive of one month free use of all amenities.

“Congratulations sa party,” said Connel Go. “Best service in any party I’ve ever seen.”

“Usually around this time, yung mga party, wala nang beer eh,” remarked Kevin Dineros around 1 AM. But beer was free until 3:30 AM. Cocktails were freely flowing until 2:45 AM.

Iba kayo bros,” remarked Michael Anthony Sabado.

“Da beast!” remarked former Lord Grand Chancellor Roque Xerxes Torres.

The party was a brainchild of Lord Keeper of the Chest Angelo Miguel Realina and was made possible with the extensive support of Dr. Noel Martin Bautista and the rest of the academic brothers. It also serendipitously coincided with the weekend after which the GBE Fraternity achieved a 100% passing rate for the physicians’ licensure examinations.
