| Not unusual is the fear and uncertainty that a pre-medical student feels prior to graduation. A million and one questions hound him which boil down to the mother of all questions: “What is medical life like?”
To answer this question and aid help the hapless future medical student cope with the uncertainties of entering medicine proper, The Gamma Beta Epsilon Fraternity initiated in 1988 a project called “Quo Vadis, Medicine?“. It was envisioned to be sort of an orientation seminar aimed in giving pre-medical students a briefing on the life of a medical student – what to expect, potential problems, the joys and sorrows.
The project was revived in 1991 and since then became a yearly commitment of GBE to aspiring medical students. The first few years of the project covered only students from the College of Science, but in 1994, incoming medical students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical Technology and Biocehmistry were also included.
Topics discussed range from the requirements for admission into the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery to life after graduation – internship, residency and practice. Quo vadis likewise provided a great help for undecided students in making up their minds of whether to proceed to medical college or not. |
